Our seven sisters are now five weeks old and are growing like crazy.
They just got their little baby teeth and started eating solid goods. They are eating several times a day and are still nursing a few times a day as well. Once they started solids Daisy stopped keeping their whelping box clean so we started potty training.
When we start potty training we line most of the box with newspaper and leave just a small area for sleeping. Because dogs instinctively keep their bed area clean, they will leave the bed and go onto the paper to go potty. Once they are used to using the newspaper we can make the paper area smaller until they are just using a small area of the 4 foot x 8 foot box. This litter of puppies is honestly the easiest litter we've ever had! We have not had a single poop accident since the very first day we reconfigured their box so that they have access to the dog door. All seven are going outside to pee 90% of the time, even when it is freezing outside! And I do mean freezing--12 degrees this morning here in the Magic Valley. When they don't go outside they go into the newspaper corner. Smart little girls!
Over the next few weeks they will learn bite inhibition and dog manners. And they will continue to be well loved. For sure!
Sadie's little guy Fudge is off to his home in Boise. His name is now Tucker (which we think is adorable).
Tucker's new mom is a fantastic experienced dog owner and we are so happy to have her join the MVGD family!
